EB Games $600 Wii U Pricing

EB Games $600 Wii U Pricing

A number of reports have surfaced regarding the Nintendo Wii U being priced at $600.00 AUD (which we reported on back in June), while there is mass hysteria there is no reason to be worried about the price that EB Games has currently listed for the Wii U gaming console.  Historically, Australians pay a premium on electronics, especially gaming consoles and accessories. For example, Sony Playstation 3′s are currently priced at approximately $450 at Electronic Botique department stores.

Today I visited my local Electronics Boutique store and asked an employee what the reasoning behind the $600 price tag was, in response he claimed -  “I’m not really sure but my manager believes the price will drop quite a bit before the Wii U comes out”.

Rest assured the price of the Nintendo Wii U will be much lower than $600.00

  1. Just seems like EB Games wants some free PR attention lol

  2. Thunderfitz says:

They always do this. They listed the 3DS at $350. Not a chance Nintendo would release a console over $400.

  3. It’s merely a place-holder price. Retailers usually price items such as the Wii U much higher than the actual price. this to avoid pricing it lower and then having wiseguys trying to cash in on that.

Nothing to worry about. Iwata already talked about not wanting to make the same mistake with the price as they did with the 3DS again.

  4. I worked for GameStop (which owns EBGames) for years. Whenever new hardware comes into the system the sku is automatically placed a high price. I don’t know why, but it is par for the course. The Wii U will not cost $600. The system isn’t even in it’s final design yet so there is no possible way a retailer could have a price point on it.

It’s just more lunacy of people trying to use Nintendo to draw attention to themselves. Last week they were saying that the Wii U was only as powerful as a 360. Now they are saying it’s gonna cost $600 bucks. What next? It’s only gonna be available in Japan? C’mon…….

  5. Demon inside says:

Wow nice, I never knew GameStop owned EB Games! Thanks.

    • Well, it’s not necessarily a good thing. I worked for EBGames back in 2005 and it was a cool place to work. Shortly after that GameStop bought out EBGames and it quickly became less about the enjoyment of games and more about the bottom line. Then they closed our location and transffered me to a GameStop. It was all downhill from there. You are welcome anyway though. :)

  6. lol I bet it’s going to be $350 at the highest.

    • Yeah i bet its going to be close to 600AU if a ps3 is still 450! The prices over there are crazy. If its 400US, won’t that mean its REALLY going to be 600AU!?

  7. ArabDiSASTER says:

If this is listed in EBGames Australia than expect like a 300 dollar system in the USA… Australia has OUTRAGEOUS Gaming prices, plus EB is know to list high prices early…

  8. i was on ebgames.com.au and call of duty mw3 for xbox 360 is AUD $98. call of duty mw3 on gamestop.com in the US is USD $59.99, which coverts to AUD $58.04, so AU sells games for a lot more. lol that doesn’t even make sense tho because if you think about supply and demand the US has over 50% of worldwide game sales so it should have the most expensive games. lol not complaining tho cuz im american so i would rather fork out 50 for a game than 100.

  9. sonicwalter says:

IMPOSSIBLE! it can’t be priced at $600.
i think it’ll be priced between $200-$300 like the nintendo 3ds’s price when it was launched.

if i’m right, then thank you nintendo! :)
