Wii U Release Date Poll Results

Wii U Release Date Poll Results

Lately the Wii U news roll has been slow and there has been next to nothing to report on regarding the Nintendo Wii U. A  couple of weeks ago we launched our first Wii U visitor’s poll, in which we asked you the question, ‘When do you believe the Wii U will be released?’.

An astonishing 350 people voted in on the poll coming up with these results:

39% – Later than August 2012

25% – Earlier than May 2012

23% – June 2012

13% – July 2012

Giving the Wii U release date ‘Later than August 2012′ the winner’s title, a big thank you to everyone who voted!

Wii U Updates will now launch it’s second official poll regarding one of the most controversial topics of the Nintendo Wii U, it’s RRP (Recommend Retail Price). To make things simpler this poll we’ll only include two options;

Under $350 RRP

Over $350 RRP

Please take the time to vote on the right hand sidebar and place a comment as to why you voted for your particular option in the comment box below, another big thank you to all our visitors! :)

Stay tuned for the latest Wii U news and Wii U updates!

  1. Voted for above $350 because of the wii u controller. I think its going to be very pricey itself.

    • Matt Damon! says:

i don’t think so, because if they are planning to sell(and manufacture) a lot of wii u’s , they can’t spend a lot of money in super high quality materials for the controller. But there’s a problem with that as i assume you know

    • peteriuss says:

well,if they release it june or march nintendo wiiu might be better than the last time we saw it at the presentetion.slso, sony suck. thank you:)

  2. voted for under cuzz nintendo is not known for selling expensive products

  3. I think it’ll be under 350, this is what I’ve heard from various people and I’m hoping it to be true, I think in fear of what happened to the 3DS that this will be the case.

  4. I hope it’s over $350 it needs to be packed with power

    • Yeah, I don’t want the ‘cheapness’ of the original Wii to rub off on it. I want the Wii U to be recognized as a powerful gaming console

  5. Does anyone know if they plan to release the console at the same time in Europe or will the europeans have to wait longer to join the fun? :)

  6. I voted for over, in hopes of a more advanced system in terms of power, touch screen tablets that are portable and of decent quality go as low as 90$. I want to be blown away and people will buy it

  7. omg! cnt wait! hopefully earlier and cheap! ill only spend £200-£250 not a penny more

  8. I am betting on it being just under $350.
Nintendo has a history of launching their systems at that $199 price point.
Only the Wii and the original NES w/Rob were priced outside of that.

The big wigs down at Nintendo know how to launch a system. They will take a page from Sony and charge less than the manufacturing cost for it rather than price it too high.

They arn’t idiots, they know that the Wii U is going to be competing directly against the 360 and PS3.
It doesn’t matter if the system is so much more powerful that it makes the PS3 look like the PS1 by comparison, the systems it will be competing with are priced at those lower prices.

The PS3 with Move is right at that $349 mark, and I feel they are the only system that will really be able to keep up once the WiiU launches.

The 360 with Kinect runs between $299-$399 depending on your hardrive, but it lacks the additional control option that the PSV is planning to offer the PS3.

    Sorry, I know, I ramble.

  9. Nintendo has upped the price $50 on each of the last 3 console releases. Even with this new controller, I see $299. Possibly no game will be bundled to keep the price down. Or since (by 10/12) 100 million Wiis’ will have been sold, and the new console using Hdmi too, they could not include a cord and utilize the Wii a/v one too keep the cost down. Most people have an extra Hdmi cord laying around, and 100 million folks definitely have either of the Wii cords. And keep in mind a full Wii controller was (and still is) $60. Computer chips and such always lessen in price each year so the console itself shouldn’t cost too much to manufacture. Look how much a PS3 has gone down (50%) and it has a blue-ray reader in it.

    • I only count 1 console release which increased in cost, and that was the Wii at it’s $249 price point. The Gamecube, N64, and SuperNES all launched at $200.
I do agree they may try to keep the cost down by not having a pack in game. The Wii is the first system since the SNES which came with a game. Heck, outside of special bundles, Nintendo is the only one who has ever offered pack-in games at launch.

  10. Don’t think for a moment the WiiU Is going to come soon or cheap EBGames has the WiiU for preorder now and Its price tag Is $598 Aus with no tentative release date In sight so all you hard core Nintendo gamers out there better start saving now.

  11. I can’t understand why so many of you guys voted the WiiU will be coming out under $350,This Is a HD console people with a big ass controller with a damn screen In It and you think Its gonna cost around the same price as the Wii when It released give me a break.
Nintendo Is a corporation the Wii U will be released before July so It bulks up the half yearly sales figures thats just buisness people nothing to do with gaming.

    • You forget the power of Miyamoto. Shigeru may not be steering the ship right now, but he still holds a ton of power over at Nintendo. He personally will not let the suits tell him when the WiiU is ready to ship.

The PS3 and the 360 are currently under that mark because chip costs go down over time. If the WiiU is only moderately more powerful than the PS3 and 360, then $299 is not an unreasonable expectation. If it blows them out of the water and is about the jump between the PS3 and a PS2, then we can look forward to a higher price point.

  12. Under 350 it will be 300 dollars

  13. I say its neither, it will most likely end up being $250-$299, nintendo has never released (to my knowledge) a gaming system for more than 300 dollars. That’s just not how they…roll. The Wii U will be built with power and cost efficient parts, which may be cheap by standards of other companies, but they just have a way of making everything work hardware-wise in the end.

    • I never have felt that they went cheap with any of their consoles. Sure the Wii didn’t have the same chip power as the other 2 consoles it competed with, but they design damn durable consoles

I found a flip up screen and car adaptor for my old Gamecube when I first got it. It logged more miles of travel time some portable systems! I used to take it with me to classes when I was at Community College so I could play in the hallway between classes.

The only problem I have had with my Wii over the past 5 years has been the system files becoming corrupted (perhaps I shouldn’t have been using it to look at sites on the internet I wouldn’t look at on my computer because they are sketchy.)

And cost wise, you are totally correct on that one. All their consoles except the Wii and the NES w/ROB have launched at $200, and those two exceptions launched at $249. There is a link in one of my prior comments to back that up.

  14. I really hope they change the name, “Wii U” Sounds really annoying and dumb. Please Nintendo, change the name. I’ll pay 600 dollars if you change the name!

    • Hmm…if I can get the same system with a goofy name for less money I’ll do it.
The name doesn’t make the system.
“A rose by any other name would be just as fragrant.” (paraphrased the immortal bard.)

I’m not paying more for a better name, but I do agree that the name is stupid and they should change it. Of course Nintendo has had quite the track record of sweet sounding code names for consoles only to blow them on stupid names when they released them.

Tell you what, what ever Nintendo decides to call this thing, we should all just start referring to it as what we want the name to be. Enough internet people start calling it something else, the name will stick, whether or not Nintendo likes our new name.

      Any suggestions?
