Wii U Will Support Multiple Controllers
In the on-going “Wii U controller saga” (How many Wii U controllers are compatible with a single Wii U console), Matt Ryan from Nintendo explained the Wii U console would indeed support multiple controllers. “Let me correct something that is a misconception,We said that the Wii U system will come with one Wii U controller, but we haven’t said that you can only use one Wii U controller. The fact is that if the developer makes a game or an experience that uses more than one, then anything is possible”, said Ryan.
Ryan’s comments conflict with Nintendo’s Amber Mcollom earlier comments, in a recent interview Mcollom had the following to say on the Wii U controller debate, “We don’t have anything to announce at this time on how many controllers will effectively work with the system but right now we’re showing it with one new controller”.
The fact Nintendo can’t communicate such a basic aspect of the Wii U’s functionality concerns me, a lot of work remains to be done to win over core gamers.

To win over the core gamer, Nintendo needs to have a great release of their core games, 3rd party support, and great online.
The fact that we can use multiple controllers is good news to hear for me, but what I’m wondering is what the cost for individual controllers will be.
I’d say it’d be slightly cheaper than the Nintendo 3DS. $100-$170US.
I say like $85-$100
Why would it be close to the 3DS??? It has one screen, no internal processing hardware, and no passive 3D technology. If it were a standalone system perhaps, but it is a glorified controller-screen.
$60-75
now way guys..every one forgets that Nintendo doesn’t make expensive things, i mean the 3ds came out 250$..the same price of the psp1 and the pspgo, 70-80$ is the controller and 60$used at GameStop, Nintendo looks to make inexpensive fun gamesystems
This is great news, couldn’t understand why it was initially only ONE controller :s
Cost of the controller was/is a controller, hardware wasn’t as finalized. The developers didn’t even know what the wii U really looked like until the DAY of e3! That’s because leaks made nintendo force out a e3 presentation when the console wasn’t prepared.
This has me very worried, I’m not much of an expert in development software, but so far I know that streaming images to two separate screens requires quite a bit of processing. This means that if we see a game using 4 Wii U pads, if the hardware is just a bit better than the 360 and ps3, we can’t expect much of the graphics, since they will most likely have to be significantly diminished in order to allow fluid gameplay. The same thing happened with the DS, more than enough power to take on a ps1 nevertheless software developers could only achieve n64+ architecture with diminished resolution because of the dual screen concept. Hopefully the Wii U will pack more than a kick over the current hardware because I really want to buy this thing.
Sorry but your statement is wrong. n64 hardware was far superior to the ps1.
Ps1 was 32 bit system while n64 was 64bit.
Compare any game from ps1 to majora’s mask and you’ll see.
The gap between ps1 and n64 is greater than the gap between gcn vs ps2.
Gcn was also more powerful than ps2. the only system sony had stronger than their nintendo’s rival were ps3 and psp.
