Justin Richmond “Not Completely Sold” On Wii U
Naughty Dog’s game director Justin Richmond has shared his thoughts on the Nintendo Wii U in an interview with nowgamer. Richmond believes the Wii U is “very cool” but doesn’t offer anything different to the PS3′s Vista. While Richmond may be giving his honest opinion there is no doubt there is a conflict of interest as Naughty Dog are avid Playstation fans so I’d take his comments with a pinch of salt. It would have been great to see Uncharted on the Wii U, although I can still see it happening a few years.
Justin Richmond:
To be honest with you, the idea of it is very, very cool. But there’s nothing that the Wii U has that the Vita and PS3 doesn’t. You know, it’s an interesting piece of technology, and I’m interested to see how people use it.
I’m not completely sold yet. That the screen isn’t multi-touch, that’s a little weird. It seems there are some very strange holes in it, but to be fair, last time I was sceptical of the original Wii, and look at how that did. I’m sure that he games they make for Wii U will be amazing.

J-rich is an idiot.
Agreed. Honestly, at this point anyone whom has anything bad to say about the Wii U has an agenda. Even though we know that the Wii U is more powerful than the 360 and PS3, a few hold out developer talk about it in an ‘inferior’ sense.
And the Wii U DOES offer something different. At the absolute worst a separate Wii U controller would cost $100 dollars a piece. If you want to use the PS3 and Vita in the same manner you have to shell out $250 for the Vita. So to prepare for a 4-player co-op with the Wii U at worst is an extra $300 dollars where as with Vita it would be $1,000 dollars unless your friends bring their own Vitas to your house.
Completely agree, it seems consumers and developers alike are trying to attack the Wii U at any given opportunity.
the Wii U is just different. People always have negative things to say about the ones who try to innovate or do something out of the ordinary. Like nintendo for example. Or even the PS3 has its share of haters because it tried to be different by putting insane tech in its console making the barrier to entry to high for a regular consumer. But every system is different. Thats why we have different consoles. Wii U will be good, no doubt about that. So no worries.
and btw D2k, the plays station vita is its own separate system so it costs more. Its not a controller. So a wii u controller being priced at 100$ is pretty ridiculous.
To be brutally honest, as a consumer, if the controller costs that much then i wont buy the wii u. But at least it comes with one controller. But right now, i am not sold on the wii u either. They have also recently announced that the wii u will not support Blu ray or dvds. So far all they got on the competition is the tablet touch controller(not even multi touch! Even my 3 year old itouch has multi touch) and improved graphics. For me, this is nintendo trying to catch up to the competition rather than surpass it, and that kinda bothers me because I have such huge respect for Nintendo and its innovative and visionary ideas. I bought the wii, and that was the biggest disappointment i have ever experienced in gaming. Just hope they do not let a hardcore gamer like me down again….I have no doubts the wii u will be good like the wii was initially, i am just concerned how well the system will be able to suit the needs of the average consumer like myself.
Sorry if i sound like a hater. But im not trying to hate, just trying to give a frustrated opinion on a company that i really love and respect. I am a fan of games and am not particular to any system, i just enjoy a good game and a good system. that is all.
let me tell you that multitouch screen means capacitive screan which is alot less precise than a resisitive screen like the ds.
in terms of touch technology resistive is definitely the way to go. you can use pens on resistive screen but on an capacitive one(vita or iphone) you can’t so in fact wiiu’s controller is superior due to it. you’ll be able to draw precisely, this is a plus.
Lol… thanks for that Justin i guess
Awell i guess
The potential the Wii U is actually different than the Vita and PS3, specifically I would never buy a Vita just to play a game on my PS3, where the Wii U controller comes with the system, I don’t feel like spending 250 on my already 400
As for the Wii U multiple controllers thing, I’m going to have to believe that it will be focused on the controler and the Wii Motes, so welcome to the era of 5 player multiplayer games
This is completely irrelevant, The WiiU and PS3/Vita combination are two very different pieces of hardware, on one side you have the more expensive system, the ps3 and buying a vita for hardware to hardware interaction, and then you have the WiiU which already comes with its controller for maybe half of the price that you would pay for the Sony combination. Both have their strong points, Sony Vita and PS3 will allow you to have experiences at home, and on the go, Wii U only in your own home and given distance, but for a much affordable price, and most likely better gameplay. Both systems will just end up in our homes according to what our style of play revolves around, J-Rich isn’t at fault either, the Uncharted series are NaughtyDog’s golden egg right now, and Sony is supporting him, there’s no way he would risk losing that support for a system that hasn’t even been finished developing yet.
